An event typically has 3 officials . . . .
Organisors ensure permissions have been granted with landowners, portaloos booked and teams of helpers energised
Planners check the terrain for the best bits of the map and plan courses accordingly
Whilst Controllers sit back and take the plaudits for a smooth running event . . .
. . . but seriously it's the Controller's responsibility to ensure that the event takes place in accordance with the BOF Rules and, above all, is fair to all competitors.
Lots of information about controllers, as well as planners and organisers, can be found in Appendix C:Event Officials on the BOF Website: go to www.britishorienteering.org.uk/downloads/documents/events_appendix_c.pdf
The current Co-ordinator of Controllers in the NW Region is Dick Towler. To contact Dick for a list of current NWOA Controllers, or for help in finding a Controller for a Regional Event, see the CONTACT NWOA page.
Controllers are graded in accordance with the new event structure of Levels 1,2,3 or 4
